Our computers can sure get a work out when we start looking for information about housing trends, sales, and availability, and it all depends on where you live, where you look, and what you ask.

Two interesting websites which can guesstimate the current value of a particular piece of property, and often provide a street side view, are http://www.zillow.com/ and http://www.trulia.com/. If you look at the same piece of property on both sites, chances are pretty good that the valuation will be different but this is a place for homeowners to start.

Another good website is http://www.homepricetrends.com/ which tracks real estate data in various cities with an eye to recognize national trends and market changes. But national trends go only so far. For instance, Home Trends has noticed that the general inventory of homes on the market is dropping and that in many places the prices on available homes are inching up. But here are just a few more interesting facts: New York City inventory is continuing to drop and it is the same story in Tampa, but prices are down 30 percent in New York City, compared to 45 percent in Tampa, or 30 percent in Albuquerque or 17 percent in Kansas City. Have a look at your own piece of the Planet and you might just be surprised by the recovery.
